Tonight! I’ve invited all 86 members of the graffiti photostroll meet up. Hoping for a good turn out, but I’m pretty sure I could go by myself and still have a good time. Plus, anytime I find an excuse to swing by Fifty24SF I’m all for it (they even extended the Will Barras show for this event). I’ll post pics later.
I first heard about the Date Farmers a couple of weeks ago, but they have been putting in some serious work these last few years. Recently, Wooster Collective ran a piece from Current TV documenting their rise from the Date Festival in Indio, California to being discovered at New Image Art in LA, and finally to securing a solo exhibit at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC. As it turns out, that very week was their “Strange Fruit” opening at Fifty24SF here in San Francisco.
I was lucky enough to attend the opening and take in their work firsthand. There were some very moving pieces, ranging from simple sketches and sculptures to collages with wheat paste illustrations. Check out the video below to watch the set up at New Image in LA.
Also, Fecal Face has a nice write up from the duos last visit to SF.
There have been so many great openings lately. Over the last week I’ve attended Attaboy’s “Antidote” at 1AM and El Mac’s “Faces of Life” at Fifty24SF.
Attaboy’s (Daniel Seifert) work, below, features a lot of color pencil illustrations and stencil work on transparent plastic. I thought the installation was incredible. Roman and the crew at 1AM are first class all the way.
It’s also worth noting that Attaboy is the co-founder of Hi-Fructose magazine. Badass.
Fifty24SF had an equally impressive show. El Mac’s giant portraits are created using spray paint on burlap. I’ve been fortunate enough to pass by a couple of his street murals over the last couple of days too. See below.
